Significant Web Failure Impacts Many Online Platforms and Apps

A widespread internet failure has affected many sites and apps around the world, with users experiencing troubles getting online after problems at Amazon’s web hosting system.

The impacted services encompass Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and Duolingo, along with multiple Amazon-owned platforms such as its primary shopping website and the Ring security doorbell company.

Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was disrupted as well as its subsidiaries the bank Halifax and Bank of Scotland, and additional accounts of issues using the HMRC website on Monday morning. Also in the UK, multiple Ring customers took to online platforms to complain their doorbells were failing.

Solely in the United Kingdom, accounts of problems on individual applications reached the thousands for each app.

Officials confirmed that the issue originated in the Atlantic coast of the America at the cloud division, a section that offers essential online framework for a host of companies, who utilize capacity on Amazon servers. The cloud platform is the biggest global cloud computing service.

Soon after the start of the day (PDT) in the US (morning UK time), Amazon confirmed “higher failure rates and delays” for the cloud services in a region on the Atlantic seaboard of the US. The ripple effect appeared to affect platforms around the world, and the outage tracking website indicating issues with the identical platforms in multiple continents.

The outage tracker Thousand Eyes, a tool that tracks web disruptions, also reported a rise in issues on Monday morning, including several cases situated in the state of Virginia, the region of the eastern US data center where officials confirmed the issues began.
