Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match winless start to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means the club would not need to pay any compensation.
