Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
